The Sea

‘The Kraken’ by Alen Residovic

Close your eyes and listen to the sea
As it crashes against the shore
Rocking the bones of long-lost ships
Grinding mighty rocks
Into smithereens

Comment:

This is the first stanza of the poem ‘The Sea’ from my collection, Beneath the Surface. I play with the water imagery because, like life, water flows, the ocean is deep, dark, unexplored, and unpredictable. However, water is also restorative, regenerative, and healing. It is a whimsical element, with its beauty and its massive destructive force. And no wonder it is easily personified and linked to humanity, because at the end of the day, we are mostly made of water and guided by our own internal tides.
